Genoa Bridge Painting Donated to the Italian Presidency

The painting by Alessandro Papetti will be displayed in the “Quirinale Contemporaneo” exhibition, inaugurated by President Mattarella
We have donated to the Presidency of the Italian Republic a painting by the Milanese artist Alessandro Papetti depicting the new Genoa San Giorgio Bridge.
“Genoa. The Bridge over the City” is the title of the artwork, which will be displayed in the permanent exhibition Quirinale Contemporaneo, inaugurated tomorrow by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
The Camozzi Group decided to undertake this initiative to celebrate, through a prestigious figurative artwork, a major infrastructure project—an expression of Italian ingenuity—to which the Group contributed.
Together with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa, the Group designed and built in record time a robotic system unique in the world that contributes to the safety of the new bridge. The system combines advanced manufacturing, digitalization and eco-sustainability. Through cameras and sensors it monitors the structural integrity of the infrastructure and, through data processing, allows operators to carry out preventive maintenance actions.
Beyond technology and safety, the bridge represents reconstruction, rebirth and national pride. For this reason, we wanted to donate the painting to the Quirinale, an institution that symbolizes the unity and cohesion of the country, so that the memory of this event—its tragedy and its recovery—can be preserved and made available to all Italians.
The painting, an oil on canvas created by Papetti in recent months, is also remarkable for its size (2.7 by 4.5 meters) and portrays the bridge in its entirety, stretching over the city of Genoa with which it blends. The bridge’s connection with the surrounding houses recalls its relationship with the community, while the presence of a construction site evokes the work carried out to build it and stands as testimony to the effort behind its realization.
The artwork, placed in the Sala del Plastico of the Quirinale Palace, becomes part of a collection of 101 paintings and 102 design objects from the republican period that enrich the residences of the Presidency of the Republic and represent an important public testimony to Italian excellence.

“Having contributed to the construction of the new Genoa Bridge is one of the greatest sources of pride for our Group. Not only is it a symbol of rebirth, but it has also shown the world that Italy, even after the worst tragedies, is capable of rising again and creating unique and forward-looking projects. Knowing that the painting will be preserved at the Quirinale makes us even prouder, because we believe it is essential that the artwork remains a heritage for all Italians and that what has been rebuilt is never forgotten by future generations.”

“When I began to think about the painting, I felt a strong sense of responsibility for the symbolic value of the subject and for what my work could represent. If a bridge is metaphorically a point of connection, union and continuity, in this case it also represents a dramatic rupture—the stitching together of a wound that cannot and must not be forgotten, and the possibility of rebirth. In essence, it is a painting about memory, which I tried to address without rhetoric, with silent objectivity and respect.”
