Scuderia del Portello: Disability and Motorsport

We have joined the car “adoption” project in support of the initiative “Disability and Motorsport: mobility without barriers”, promoted by Scuderia del Portello
Since 1982, Scuderia del Portello has represented the Alfa Romeo racing brand, bringing to the most prestigious international events a dynamic museum of historic Alfa Romeo racing cars.
The cars of Scuderia del Portello are equipped with driving systems for people with disabilities, serving as ambassadors for barrier-free mobility in motorsport and automotive heritage.
Alfa Romeo 1900
Clay Regazzoni, a former Formula 1 driver who became paraplegic following an accident at the Long Beach circuit in 1980, wanted the Alfa Romeo 1900 of Scuderia del Portello to be prepared for him to compete in the 2002 edition of the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico (the car had already taken part in the same race in 1954, 1990 and 1991).
Clay Regazzoni’s pioneering initiative opened the doors of historic motorsport to people with disabilities.
After being significantly damaged in a road accident, the car was restored and prepared again by Scuderia del Portello, equipped with the same Guidosimplex driving system, to make its debut at the 2020 1000 Miglia as a guest car.
1000 Miglia srl and the Camozzi Group—a long-time sponsor of Clay Regazzoni—contributed to the restoration and preservation of this unique vehicle.
Mattia Ziletti’s Debut with the Alfa Romeo 147
The project goes beyond the world of historic motorsport. Mattia Ziletti, a 27-year-old from Brescia living in Riccione, made his debut in the first race of the 2020 Coppa Italia Turismo Championship at the Imola circuit, driving an Alfa Romeo 147 in Scuderia del Portello colors, finishing third in his class.
After becoming tetraplegic at a young age due to a medical condition, Mattia undertook a long path of physical preparation to obtain his CSAI racing license. His Alfa Romeo 147 was modified by Mirco Righi with a custom driving system patented by Guidosimplex.
I admire Mattia for the courage he has shown. He continues the legacy of Clay Regazzoni through motorsport, serving as an exceptional role model for new generations, while also highlighting the Alfa Romeo brand with his great passion.
President of Scuderia del Portello
